The restoration, management, and ongoing maintenance of the inland waterways is a mammoth task.
Working alongside British Waterways are a huge number of organisations, charities and an army of volunteers, and most canals have an active Trust or Society holding regular meetings, talks and fundraising events.
Why not join the Inland Waterways Association (IWA)?
Why not go on a WRG camp?
You don't need anything special... just a sleeping bag, a pair of wellies, and a willingness to muck in. There's a job for everyone, no matter what skills you arrive with. Waterways Recovery Group (WRG) organisers say to first-times "you are unlikely to feel a newcomer for long". WRG camps are as legendary for sociability as they are for restoring canals - expect mud, sweat and tears of laughter.
